Maintenance 4.0: Augmented Reality for Facilities Surveillance with Acoustic Leak Imaging
In recent years, acoustic imaging has partially revolutionized the methods used to monitor pressurized gas networks and equipment. Its principle of augmented reality has enabled reliability specialists and operators in many industries to detect the slightest leakage defect faster and earlier, on both pressurized and vacuum systems. Inspection rounds can be carried out under normal operating conditions, without the need to stop or slow down production equipment. Detection is carried out remotely, and in safety for those involved.
In this presentation, a number of real-life use cases are presented, based on feedback from operators, to demonstrate the capabilities of these cameras in vast, noisy and often difficult-to-access environments.

“Before using the Distran camera, we’ve been detecting dry stream with a piece of fabric.
It was neither safe nor reliable.
When we discussed it with Distran, we understood that they had something
to bring to the the table in terms of safety and reliability.
Now we detect it from a safe distance, and we clearly visualize from where it escapes the system.”

Distran acoustic cameras maximize availability of power plants and nuclear safety
Once more, Distran showcased its solutions at the World Nuclear Exhibition, with the support of EDF, a user of Distran’s cameras since 2020. Distran’s cameras are now deployed on 20 NPP, 5 thermal Power Plants, and by 3 technical support divisions around the globe. Together, they presented how Distran’s technology revolutionizes facilities surveillance on nuclear plants, receiving the WNE Innovation Awards for “Operational Excellence Innovation”.
The Distran solution has been developed in the form of a hand-held camera that provides, in real time, both the location of the fault and its estimated flow rate.
Extensively deployed in power generation plants around the world, this tool contributes to operators’ efforts in terms of safety, availability and performance.
The technology, designed to be effective in the most demanding environments, is available in several versions, including one approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
