Gas Leak Detection for Upstream Oil & Gas
Protect people and assets on FPSOs, offshore platforms, and onshore production sites — with acoustic cameras that work in any condition.

Upstream operations: safety and reliability from wellhead to shore
Upstream operations — exploration, drilling, and production — involve some of the most demanding environments in the industrial world. Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) units, offshore platforms, and onshore wellheads combine dense piping networks, high pressure, hazardous gases, and limited safe access.
Undetected leaks compromise worker safety, waste valuable resources, trigger equipment failures, and release methane into the atmosphere. Distran acoustic cameras give operations, maintenance, and HSE teams a reliable way to find leaks of any gas type — from a safe distance, in high-noise environments, and in Ex-rated zones.
Increased Safety
Inspect from 0.3 to 100 m away — operators avoid direct contact with the gas and eliminate the need for scaffolding, even in ATEX Zone 1/2 areas.
Reduced Downtime
Inspection teams cover large areas in little time, reducing downtime from both planned and unplanned shutdowns.
Fast to Deploy
No expert know-how required. New operators produce reliable results after a short introduction — any shift member can run a survey.
Cut Methane Emissions
Real-time leak rate quantification lets maintenance teams prioritize repairs by ecological impact, supporting LDAR compliance.
Detect Any Gas Type
Acoustic Leak Imaging works on methane, nitrogen, CO₂, compressed air, Inergen, hydrogen, and any other pressurized gas.
ATEX / IECEx Certified
Intrinsically safe Ultra Pro versions are approved for use in potentially explosive upstream environments, including Zone 1/2 and IIC gas groups.
TotalEnergies FPSOs — Gulf of Guinea
TotalEnergies operates some of the world's largest FPSOs off the coast of Africa. The complex piping networks within tight offshore spaces make leak detection challenging — conventional tools such as soap spray or sniffers are slow and cannot detect all gas types present on board (nitrogen, CO₂, Inergen, compressed air).
Distran Ultra Pro X is now used daily during rounds, commissioning, and restart phases. Since deployment, the failure rate of main air compressors has fallen dramatically — running for three years instead of three months. Real-time leak rate quantification enables leak classification and maintenance prioritization.
"With Ultra Pro X, inspectors can cover more ground at once and detect leaks faster in hard-to-reach areas without scaffolding." — TotalEnergies FPSOs, Gulf of Guinea

Score Group — Offshore Gas Turbine Failure
On a North Sea offshore platform, an unexplained gas turbine kept tripping offline. High ambient noise levels and limited safe access to the enclosure made conventional detection tools ineffective.
Score Group, a global emissions mitigation company, deployed the Distran Ultra Pro. In a single survey session, three distinct air leaks around the bellows pipes were clearly identified — visible through the live acoustic image despite the turbine's background roar.
After targeted repairs, the turbine returned to full operational duty. Enclosure temperatures stabilized, shutdown triggers were eliminated, and production resumed at full capacity.
"The Ultra Pro has become an important tool in our emissions elimination toolkit, especially where safety and efficiency are paramount." — Aidan Glennie, Emissions Elimination Survey Technician, Score Group

What upstream operators say about Distran
"Inspections are carried out remotely, easily, quickly, and, above all, safely. The Ultra Pro X has become an indispensable tool." — Vincent Leleux, Deputy Head of Operations, TotalEnergies Feyzin, France
"We can pick up the smallest of sounds. It saves our teams a lot of time while making sure the system is safe and leak-tight." — Chris Anderson, Subsea Project Engineer, Shell, United States
